Abstract

Abstract

This study examines a set of colloquial expressions used by young speakers in Spanish TV series such as Élite and Física o Química, with the aim of analyzing their translation into Arabic. These expressions, marked by dynamism and lexical creativity, pose a significant challenge for translators due to the frequent lack of direct equivalents.

The methodology consisted of extracting twenty expressions, verifying them in specialized dictionaries, and consulting both Arabic language experts and young native Spanish speakers. The analysis revealed that the most common techniques applied were functional equivalence and paraphrasing, followed by cultural adaptation and the creation of neologisms.

The findings highlight that translating youth slang requires not only a linguistic but also a cultural approach, and that sociolinguistic validation is essential to ensure naturalness and authenticity in the target language.
