Abstract

Digital art in Iraq is undergoing notable development, shaped by the country’s evolving social, political, and technological landscape. This study explores the broader history of digital art, with particular focus on its emergence and evolution in the Middle East and Iraq. In this context, digital art serves as a new medium for expressing identity and collective memory, while also documenting social and political realities. Originating globally in the 1960s, digital art gained momentum with the advancement of computer technologies and software. Its gradual introduction into the Middle East and Iraq gave rise to a new generation of artists who integrate cultural heritage with contemporary digital tools. This research highlights the key methods and techniques of digital art, including digital painting, video art, and virtual reality, which offer expansive creative possibilities. The study also presents case studies of prominent Iraqi digital artists who have employed digital media to articulate themes such as war, displacement, and identity. Moreover, it examines the role of local and international institutions in supporting digital artistic practice. Despite technological and social challenges, digital art in Iraq functions as an effective tool of cultural resistance and documentation. Looking forward, the future of digital art in Iraq appears promising, bolstered by continued technological advancement and growing institutional support. The research situates Iraq’s digital art movement within a broader global and regional context.
