The Poetics of Symbol in Talib Abdul Aziz: Al-Khusaybi as an Example

Abstract

This study represents an attempt to approach the notion of “the distance of tension” in the poetics of Talib Abdul Aziz—taking his experience in Al-Khusaybi as a case study—through understanding it as a totality arising from the interplay and interconnection of the symbolic and the visionary. Such an interplay does not allow any single element to function at the expense of others within his poetics; rather, it reinforces the collective dynamism of symbolic agents in order to generate the overall poetic totality.The findings demonstrate that the texts in the Al-Khusaybi corpus—the field of application here—are saturated with symbolic elements of space, nature, and color. This abundance underscores the encoded poetic obsession with embodying everything related to the fertile green expanse of Abu al-Khasib, the birthplace of the poet’s textual formations.. The poetics of Talib Abdul-Aziz is fundamentally symbolic (or emblematic), aiming to interpret the existential spheres of presence surrounding the poetic self through an encrypted language that resists facile semantic disclosure upon the initial encounter with the recipient. Instead, it actively engages the reader in a hermeneutic venture, drawing them into the linguistic domains specific to a unique reality. Within this domain, the conventional, communally accepted denotations of the colors green, blue, yellow, and red are suspended; instead, these colors acquire significations illuminated by Abdul-Aziz's distinct poetic elements and the particular visions generated by the singularities of his experiential framework.
