Abstract

This research addresses the grammatical disputes of Rukn al-Din al-Jurjani al-Hilli (alive in 730 AH) in his book Al-Mabahith al-Arabiyyah fi Sharh al-Kafiya al-Hajibiyyah. The emergence of Arabic sciences was an effect of Islam. Pre-Islamic Arabs were not known to have made any notable efforts in studying their language. Grammar emerged to establish rules that protected speakers from errors in grammar, which had begun to emerge with the spread of Islam among non-Arab peoples. Linguists also made significant efforts to restrict Arabic words, regulate their forms, and define their meanings. However, the emergence of incorrect pronunciation in Arabic and the fear of those in authority for the Quran were not the only factors that prompted them to establish Arabic sciences. Rather, many other factors led them to do so. They possessed a strong desire to understand the Holy Quran
