The symbolism of night and rain when Nazik Al Malaka and Edith Sitwell

Abstract

The importance of the words is not that superficial meaning, but rather that the maker may hide behind them other meanings to become a symbol that offers them a type of ambiguity and makes the recipient live the manifestations of various revelations. This study attempts, through the comparative analytical method, to investigate the symbolism of night and rain by making a comparison between the Iraqi poet Nazek Al-Malaika and the English poet Edith Sitwell, and research in their poetry about these two symbolisms and how each poet utilized the two words and turned them into a symbol according to the occasion of the poem. In the world, the two poets sought to use different symbols in their poetry, including night and rain, so they brought up the two words with symbolic features, which is an example to express their concerns, so sadness dominated the general atmosphere of the poems. And from her own world, and that two poets have some similarities in the contents, though there is a difference in the form, themes and meanings that lead to the independence of each of them, the study based on collecting data from the library curriculum and translated books.
