Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of restricting nominal sentences with "kana" and its sisters in the book "Tuhaf al-'Uqul `an Aal al-Rasul" (The Book of Knowledge about the Prophet's Family) by Ibn Shu'bah al-Bahrani, demonstrating the impact of these tools on constructing textual meaning and the semantic coherence of narrative texts. The researcher adopted a semantic analytical approach to uncover the grammatical and rhetorical functions of these abrogators, highlighting their role in restricting time and defining meaning between permanence, discontinuity, and transformation. The study also demonstrated that the significance of restriction varies depending on the tool used, and that these defective verbs contribute to highlighting the profound rhetorical and religious meaning in texts. It emphasized that their use in "Tuhaf al-'Uqul" reveals the precision of expression and the richness of language in Islamic thought
