The Words of Food and Drink in Al-Sihah Dictionary by Al-Jawhari (d. 393 AH), in Light of the Theory of Semantic Fields

This research aims to study and analyze the vocabulary related to food and drink in Al-Sihah by Al-Jawhari, one of the most influential Arabic lexicons that have shaped the linguistic heritage of the Arabic language. The study explores the meanings and connotations of these terms in various contexts, with a particular focus on their linguistic, cultural, and social dimensions. The researcher adopted a descriptive-statistical approach, extracting food- and drink-related terms from the lexicon and categorizing them into semantic fields, including names of foods and types of beverages. The findings indicate that Al-Jawhari provided a rich and precise linguistic description of food- and drink-related vocabulary, reflecting the cultural and social diversity of the Arabs in his time. Additionally, the study reveals that while some of these terms remain in use today, others have either faded from the language or undergone semantic shifts.
