The word (until): the Grammatical and semantic function

Abstract

Prepositions and linking tools represent two sections of speech  in Hebrew language, which are frequently used in the language but have little research important. The reader may pass these tools and understands them in his language, but in many cases these tools have a wide linguistic dimension in both of linguistic and semantic fields as if they are compared to their multiple uses.

       This research studied the tool (until)- which has dual function in Hebrew -from two sides, the first is the grammatical function of this tool as prepositions (links verbs with nouns or nouns with nouns), and a linking tool (to connect the linguistic structures, sentences or the linguistic units). the second is the semantic field since this tool represent a noun that has lost of meaning, and entered into many linguistic structures and idioms, in general, its meaning is (the end).

      Its clear that the prepositions (until) has undergone major linguistic development where it is found in many biblical verses as well as in the Mishnaic Hebrew, and it has different linguistic interpretations, and has entered modern Hebrew in different linguistic expressions and compositions.

        This research included many evidence from various stages of the Hebrew language as mentioned in the biblical and Talmudic texts, in literature and the press, which show the multiple uses of this tool, as well as the classification of its meanings
