الملخص

This research aims to study the effectiveness of implementing cooperative learning in improving the academic achievement of fifth-grade literary students in geography in Wasit Governorate, from the perspective of the geography teachers themselves. The research employed a descriptive-analytical approach to collect data on teachers' knowledge of the cooperative learning concept, their level of application of its strategies, the obstacles they face, and their perception of the impact of this strategy on academic achievement. The research population consisted of all fifth-grade literary geography teachers in Wasit Governorate. A random sample of 40 teachers was selected, and 35 valid questionnaires were analyzed.

The results showed that teachers' knowledge of the cooperative learning concept and its basic requirements was high, while their application of strategies in the classroom was moderate, with a clear deficiency in forming balanced student groups. The study also revealed that the main obstacles to implementing cooperative learning include overcrowded classrooms, limited time, weak student engagement, and a lack of teaching resources. Conversely, the study indicated that teachers have a strong awareness of the impact of cooperative learning on improving student achievement, fostering deeper understanding, and developing critical thinking and analytical skills. The research concluded that cooperative learning is an effective strategy for improving academic achievement if it is applied systematically and supported by appropriate means, with a focus on continuous teacher training and overcoming practical obstacles
