This study seeks to highlight the aesthetics of reception—both in terms of the significance of the term and the concept—through a theoretical examination of Reception Theory, the emergence and development of the term, and the schools and intellectual trends that contributed to shaping it. Reception Theory is regarded as a major turning point in literary and critical studies; indeed, it may be considered a transformative moment in the humanities as a whole, as it recognized the importance of the recipient’s participation in the creation, formation, and interpretation of meaning within literary texts. This shift enabled a reconsideration of the traditional roles in which greater prominence had been granted to the author and the text, incorporating instead a third vital element: the reader. Such an approach enriches literary understanding and renders it more comprehensive and interactive. The study is grounded in a hermeneutic-aesthetic methodology that employs key concepts such as the horizon of reception, aesthetic distance, the implied reader, and the horizon of expectations, drawing upon the theoretical contributions of Hans Robert Jauss and Wolfgang Iser.
