The Technique of Narrative Collage in Rim Najmi's Novel "The Secret Lover of Frau Merkel"

This study examines the narrative collage in Rime Najmi's "The Secret Lover of Frau Merkel," a postmodern Arabic novel. It reveals how the technique builds a fragmented, non-linear text by juxtaposing diverse narrative elements. This is realized through several forms: journalistic collage (press clippings), epistolary (the protagonist Younes's obsessive letters), vocal (multiple voices like the father, Aya, and the psychiatrist), documentary (real political reports), and visual (descriptions of Merkel's images). The study concludes that collage forms the core structure, reflecting a postmodern vision celebrating plurality, identity fragmentation, and blurred boundaries between reality and imagination.
