Nietzsche as Inspiration for Life-Philosophers

Scholarly studies concur on the significant influence of Nietzsche’s philosophy upon the philosophers of life, yet they diverge concerning the scope and weight of this impact. Some regard him as the most powerful voice of what came to be called the philosophy of life
Dilthey, Simmel, Spengler, and other philosophers of life not only drew upon Nietzsche’s concept of life as the core of their philosophical reflection, but also appropriated from him the critique of rationalism and science as insufficient for grasping the meaning of existence. They further adopted his emphasis on the creative individual and the latter’s capacity to generate new values, as well as his notion of becoming and perpetual flux in understanding life and fate, and ultimately found in art and beauty a path to disclosing the truth of existence.
This research employs a composite methodology that combines analytical, historical, and comparative perspectives. It first undertakes a close analysis of Nietzsche’s texts that established his philosophy as a cornerstone of the philosophy of life, then traces the historical trajectory through which these ideas were transmitted and influenced life-philosophers such as Dilthey, Simmel, and Spengler.
The research is organized into two sections: (1) a clarification of what is meant by the “philosophy of life,” and (2) an examination of the specifically Nietzschean themes that inspired philosophers of life—namely, the concepts of life, individuality, fate, and art
