This study explores the impact of Indo-Russian relations on the shifting geostrategic balances within the Indo-Pacific region—a zone increasingly central to global power competition and strategic realignment. While the partnership between Moscow and New Delhi has historical roots dating back to the Cold War, its contemporary significance lies in its adaptability to a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape marked by the intensifying U.S.-China rivalry, deepening Sino-Russian cooperation, and Russia’s gradual recalibration of its ties with Pakistan. The research analytically unpacks the dynamics of the Indo-Russian relationship through three interrelated dimensions: nuclear capabilities and deterrence, multidimensional political coordination, and strategic-economic collaboration. It further examines how these dimensions have sustained a resilient partnership amid shifting global alignments. Special attention is given to Russia’s strategic calculus in balancing its relations with China and Pakistan while preserving its core alliance with India, and to the mechanisms through which both Moscow and New Delhi navigate overlapping and sometimes conflicting regional interests.
