Theatrical Played Character in Al-Hamadan's Maqamat(The Character of Abilfatih Al-Iskandari as a sample).

Abstract

This study is distinguished by its unique approach, as it explores a classical literary text—Maqāmāt Badi' Al-Zamān Al-Hamadhānī—through the lens of narrative structure. Specifically, it examines the significant narrative phenomenon of the theatricalized character, represented by the protagonist, Abu Al-Fath Al-Iskandari, who plays a central role in all the Maqāmāt. Our study aims to analyze this artistic character within a structural phenomenon that dominates the Maqāmāt texts, manifesting in specific patterns. The character’s movements and performative roles are closely tied to these structural frameworks, which we have identified in two main patterns. The first is the fixed pattern, which maintains a relatively stable form and appears consistently throughout most of the Maqāmāt. The second is the unrestricted pattern, which appears far less frequently compared to the dominant fixed pattern.
