The Effect of the Appleton Strategy on Cognitive Achievement and Lateral Thinking Among College of Education Students in the Curriculum and Textbook Course

This study aims to determine the impact of using the Appleton strategy on academic achievement and lateral thinking skills among College of Education students in the Curriculum and Textbook course. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a post-test application. The experimental group, selected from Section (A), was taught using the Appleton strategy, while Section (B) served as the control group, taught through traditional methods. The study sample consisted of 60 students, evenly divided into 30 students per section, ensuring balance in age, intelligence level, and lateral thinking test scores. The researcher developed two research instruments: an academic achievement test and a lateral thinking test, both validated for reliability and accuracy. Data were analyzed using the independent samples t-test. The results indicated a significant advantage for the experimental group that was taught using the Appleton strategy, demonstrating superior academic achievement in the Curriculum and Textbook course as well as enhanced lateral thinking skills compared to the control group.
