Postmodern Features in the Novel "Symphony of Violence and Destruction" by Isma'il Sukran

One of the issues that has sparked research and debate in the literary and critical world is the issue of postmodernity. Many contemporary theorists have addressed this concept through various theories, perhaps due to the nature of postmodernity, which speaks of disintegration, fragmentation, and confusion. From this perspective, this study, through an analytical and critical approach, aims to trace postmodern narrative techniques in the novel "Symphony of Violence and Destruction" (2019) by the Iraqi novelist Isma'il Sukran. The study relies on narrative techniques employed by the novel such as abandoning plot structure, temporal fragmentation, autobiography, and character disorder. Although the novel cannot be considered purely postmodern, it predominantly exhibits postmodern features. It can be said that Isma'il Sukran has successfully employed postmodern techniques in his narrative, using literary work to escape violence and corruption, to express the complex Iraqi reality, intending to disclose it through modern techniques, based on the concept of "literature as vision."
