After the American occupation of Iraq in 2003, Iraq passed through its Arab isolation, as the governments that were formed after that date did not seek to overcome the past with its negative aspects towards the surrounding Arab countries, but rather they have kept isolating it, which prompted Iraq to move away from its Arab surrounding. However, after Dr. Haider al-Abady's government came to power during the period (2014-2018), Iraqi-Arab relations, particularly with Saudi Arabia, witnessed a major detente, represented in the reopening of embassies between the two countries and the establishment of the Joint Coordination Council, which was considered an advanced qualitative shift in the relationship between the two countries for its economic and political significance. Moreover, the donation by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to build some sports projects in Iraq, in addition to the exchanged visits between the two parties which were not only limited to politicians but also included clerics and social figures who have great influence and status in Iraqi society. We also should not forget the American role in strengthening relations between the two sides and sponsoring the meetings of Saudi and Iraqi officials.
