Abstract.
The Communist Party of Thailand was one of the Marxist-Leninist parties witnessed by the political arena in Thailand. Since its foundation in 1942 till the fall of its last strongholds in 1982, the Party with a cadre of Chinese ethnicity managed to gain external support, particularly from China. This created the view within the government of Thailand that the Party is a foreign political organization controlled by the Chinese. The military coup, a common phenomena within the political system in Thailand and commonly accompanied with suppression of freedom, facilitated the spread of the Party activities and being joined by many educated individuals and students leading to become the second largest Communist party in terms of its members in the South East Asia following the Vietnamese Communist Party.
This research aims at exploring the foundation of the Communist Party of Thailand, its goals and the ideological path, the tremendous support gained from China, and efforts of the government of Thailand to combat the Communist Party of Thailand with the support received from the United States of America, which considered Thailand as an epicenter to combat Communism in South East Asia.
The research was divided into several sections: the first section discusses the geographical location of Thailand; the second section discusses the establishment of the Kingdom of Thailand; the third section explores the Communist activities in Thailand; the fourth section discusses the establishment of the Communist Party of Thailand and its goals; while the fifth section explains the effect of the 1949 Chinese Revolution in supporting the Communist Party of Thailand; the sixth section discusses the Party's declaration of the armed uprising and the attacks against the government forces in Thailand; and finally, the seventh section discusses the efforts of the government of Thailand to end the armed activities of the Communist Party of Thailand.
