Natural Characteristics and Their Impact on the Distribution of Groundwater in the Badra Basin, Wasit Governorate

Abstract

The importance of groundwater lies in it being one of the most important water sources and due to its presence in soil and rocks composed of different minerals; therefore, its chemical element content varies from one place to another and according to the seasons. Furthermore, it is susceptible to pollutants originating from various human activities. Thus, conducting different analyses is necessary to determine its characteristics and suitability for different uses. Performing physical and chemical analyses on water samples collected from wells located in the study area helps in knowing its characteristics and uses. The Baddra basin in Wasit Governorate is considered one of the most important sedimentary basins in Iraq, characterized by the presence of a large groundwater reserve. This research aims to study the natural characteristics of the Baddra basin and their impact on groundwater distribution. Geological and hydrogeological data were used to study the characteristics of the Baddra basin, including geological formation, analysis of rock layers, their composition, and their hydrogeological properties.
