Abstract

This research examines the causes of sports fanaticism in Iraq by analyzing its dimensions, forms, and characteristics. It also explores the resulting damages associated with this phenomenon. The study employs an analytical approach to clarify the harms of sports fanaticism and identify its various dimensions. It aims to understand the forms and aspects of sports fanaticism, highlight its standards and traits, and focus specifically on its negative impacts within the Iraqi context. The research utilizes analytical tools to interpret the dimensions, images, damages, and causes of sports fanaticism, relying on a descriptive-analytical methodology to analyze qualitative data.

The study recommends the necessity of enhancing education on sportsmanship in schools through activities and competitions that instill values of respect, tolerance, and acceptance of loss. Furthermore, it emphasizes educating families on their educational role in fostering moderation in fandom and preventing the transmission of fanaticism to children. It also highlights the need to regulate sports media discourse by avoiding provocative headlines or biased analysis, while focusing on promoting a culture of fair competition. Additionally, the research calls for organizing awareness campaigns through sports clubs and federations to reinforce the concept that sports are about ethics before results.
