Abstract

Criticism in the interpretation of the Holy Qur’an and the science of Hadith is one of the important sciences that has been and still is in continuous development. Without criticism, it is not possible to arrive at the correct interpretation from among the dozens or hundreds of erroneous and fabricated interpretations that are not based on evidence. Likewise, we cannot accept narrations and hadiths without examination and scrutiny in the science of criticism and authentication, the science of hadith analysis, and other sciences through which we can know what is suitable to take and what is not. Our research is summarized, as we have explained, in the following points:

1. Criticism of exegesis and hadith has existed since ancient times, and its foundations were laid by the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and Muslim scholars of various schools of thought.

2. Neglecting criticism leads to the confusion and loss of authentic exegetical texts and narrations, and their mixing with anomalous, weak, and unacceptable ones.

3. A critic must possess high critical qualifications that enable them to practice criticism according to the methods and conditions established by exegetes and hadith scholars.

Finally, it should be clarified that we have explained the importance and nature of criticism in particular, and then focused on interpretive criticism of the Holy Qur'an and the Noble Hadith by explaining its definition, importance, and benefit.
