Abstract

This research analyzes the perception of the dramaturgy of Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky in the theatrical culture of Arab countries, taking into account translational, stage, and socio-cultural aspects. The aim of the study is to identify the specific features of the perception of the Russian playwright’s works within the Arab cultural space and to determine the mechanisms of their artistic adaptation. The methodological framework is based on comparative, historical-literary, and cultural approaches. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of translation difficulties related to conveying proverbs, idiomatic expressions, and nationally specific cultural realia. The formation of Ostrovsky’s image as the “Russian Shakespeare” in Arab criticism of the second half of the twentieth and the early twenty-first centuries is examined. Using the play (“The Storm”) as a case study, the universality of social and moral conflicts is revealed, which ensures the continued relevance of the playwright’s work in the contemporary Arab theatrical context.
