Periodic Economic Crises in the United States of America (1857-1907)

The recurring economic crises in the United States have been a source of concern and interest due to their negative and dangerous impacts, which began to threaten the country's economic and political stability. This study examines these crises and their financial, economic, and social manifestations, as well as the ways of addressing them through crisis management, problem-solving methods, and how to handle them. It also looks at the measures taken to confront these crises through economic planning as a fundamental requirement to face and mitigate the effects of economic and financial crises. The study is divided into an introduction and six main sections. The first section defines economic crises and their causes, highlighting the major crises leading up to the 1857 crisis. The second section of the study focuses on the 1857 crisis, explaining the causes of its outbreak and how the government addressed it. The third section sheds light on the 1873 crisis, detailing the crisis's beginnings, its effects, and the methods used to tackle it. The fourth section delves into the 1884 crisis, its causes, and consequences. The fifth section examines the 1893 crisis, its causes, effects, and the government's policy towards it. The final section concludes with an analysis of the 1907 crisis, its causes, events, and consequences, as well as the government's response.
