The Social Dimensions of Poverty and the Islamic Perspective and Methods in Alleviating the Problem of Poverty

The current research, titled “The Social Dimensions of Poverty and the Position of Islam and Its Methods in Reducing the Problem of Poverty”, aims to explore the concept of poverty and identify the reasons behind the worsening of poverty in Iraqi society. It also investigates the role of economic and social policies in mitigating the negative effects of this phenomenon, as well as the role of Islam and its approaches in combating poverty. This includes encouraging work, investing in the positive human potential through labor, promoting social solidarity, and assisting the needy—especially the vulnerable groups with limited income. Islam urges all members of society to engage in positive behavior based on caring for others, particularly those who are wealthy. It strongly emphasizes the importance of spending in charity and supporting relatives and kin, and it defines the necessary resources for spending as a contribution to social security and as part of social welfare, aiming to create a compassionate society governed by values of justice, fairness, and altruism. The research also highlights the importance of focusing on industrial and agricultural projects due to their significant impact on achieving societal welfare. Furthermore, the study points out the primary role of the state in supporting low-income groups through social welfare programs, social protection networks, and making appropriate decisions to reduce the negative effects of poverty, working towards achieving human development in all social and developmental fields.
