The Impact of the Loss of Life’s Existential Meaning and the Dimensions of Openness and Closedness on Sixth-Grade Preparatory Students in Secondary Schools

This study aims to examine how the loss of existential meaning and dogmatic awareness affects students’ levels of openness, closedness, and human belonging. The study focuses on sixth-grade preparatory students in both scientific and literary tracks and investigates the correlation between openness/closedness and the loss of life’s meaning, as well as the differences in this relationship based on variables such as gender (male/female), academic track (scientific/literary), and stage (preparatory). This age group is particularly sensitive, as students experience intense adolescence amid unstable societal conditions, imbalanced family relations, and psychological readiness for transition into higher education. The researcher adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, which is highly suitable for studies in educational and behavioral psychology. He also utilized previous studies and theories in cognitive psychology, particularly Rokeach’s theory, to construct a measurement tool assessing the impact of losing existential meaning and dogmatism on openness and closedness. The scale, consisting of 83 items across six dimensions, was applied to a random sample of 223 students (113 males and 110 females) from the scientific and literary tracks of sixth-grade preparatory classes. The tool’s validity and reliability were ensured through expert review, and appropriate statistical methods were used to analyze the data.
