Abstract

The researcher aimed through this study, titled "The Effectiveness of Teaching Scientific Thinking in Developing Mental Abilities and Cognitive Skills Among Psychology Students in Colleges of Education for Working with Children," to examine the impact and effectiveness of adopting a scientific thinking approach in enhancing, updating, and refining the mental abilities and cognitive skills of psychology students during their academic years. The study also sought to explore how this approach influences students’ capacity to teach subjects related to child psychology and effectively interact with children during the early stages of education, such as in nurseries and preschool settings, in order to achieve early childhood learning objectives. The researcher employed a descriptive-analytical methodology. The study population consisted of students in the psychology departments of Colleges of Education across three academic years. A random sample of 67 second-year students was selected and divided into two groups: the experimental group, comprising 33 students who were taught using a scientific thinking activation approach aimed at developing mental abilities and cognitive skills; and the control group, comprising 34 students who were taught using the traditional method.
