Tolerance and Coexistence in Arabic Literature: The Ruined Man by Sudanese novelist Abdul-Aziz Baraka Sakin as a model

Abstract

The need of Arab individuals for a life full of tolerance and coexistence is best represented in what Arab novelists have portrayed in their various novels in view of their own perspective and need for peace and security.

Since the novel is the literary text that is contemporary and keeps pace with developments and transformations in the world, hence comes the important and pivotal  role novels play in achieving balance between the dreams of the Arab man and the reality in which he lives.

The novel The Ruined Man by the Sudanese novelist Abdul-Aziz Baraka Sakin has been chosen as a model to be investigated. In that novel,  Sakin talks about the character of the Sudanese / Egyptian (Hasan Darweesh) who settled in Austria with two contradictory personalities: the Muslim personality who lives in countries of the West, which strived to adhere to the customs, traditions and religious legacies, and the other personality who lives within the wetern reality and the turbulent world.
