The Dialectics of Multiculturalism and Hybridisation in Ali Bader’s novel “The Clouds player”

This study examines Ali Bader’s novel “The Clouds Player” through the lens of cultural criticism, focusing on the tension between “Crisis_ ridden multiculturalism” and “Cultural hybridisation” as central narrative markers. The study adopts an approach grounded in cultural criticism, wherein multiculturalism is portrayed not as a positive form of diversity, but rather as a field of conflict and closure in which violence and repression are reproduced in various forms in both Baghdad and Brussels. In contrast, Hybridisation is presented as a horizon of liberation and a means of reshaping identity, offering the protagonist, Nabil, broader possibilities for confronting and transcending estrangement. By tracing this dialectic, the research highlights how the novel transforms narrative discourse into a critical space that interrogates identity, displacement and cultural conflict across both local and global contexts.
