This study explores a vital and novel topic, providing a theoretical framework to highlight the importance of knowledge management in information institutions within Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and its impact on performance improvement. It aims to assess the level of understanding and awareness of knowledge management among employees at Wasit University’s information institutions using a case study methodology and a questionnaire for data collection. The findings indicate varying significance among knowledge management processes, with knowledge dissemination and exchange being the most important, followed by knowledge application, then storage and organization, while knowledge generation ranked the lowest. The study recommends enhancing information and data exchange between departments, identifying technical and organizational barriers, establishing efficient communication channels, and conducting periodic evaluations to assess the effectiveness of information exchange.
