Abstract

This study focused on analyzing and evaluating the teaching methods used in the subject of Life Sciences in preparatory schools within Wasit Governorate. It traced the evolution of instructional approaches from traditional teacher-centered methods to modern, student-centered curricula. The research emphasized the importance of shifting toward innovative instructional strategies that enhance student comprehension and engagement, such as interactive modeling and simulation. The findings revealed that traditional teaching methods remain a major barrier to achieving educational goals, as they lack student interaction and active participation. Based on these findings, the study presented recommendations to improve teaching methods, including enhancing teachers' pedagogical competencies, providing innovative educational resources, and developing curricula in alignment with contemporary educational demands. Furthermore, the study highlighted several challenges in teaching biology at the preparatory level in Wasit, most notably those related to teaching methods, teacher performance, and the quality of instructional content.
