Aspects of Resistance Literature in Atika Al-Khazraji's Poetry

Abstract

Resistance literature embodies unwavering patriotism and robust nationalism. Poet-activists employ their poems as armed tools to defend their homeland, its freedom, and its esteemed values. Poetry serves their nation, its people, and upholds these values through impassioned, militant verses against aggression. Nationalism, in their context, signifies empathetic support, not irrational hostility towards foreigners. It represents a shared concern among those living within natural or historical boundaries.

Political ideologies born from liberation arguments are deeply rooted in the existence and emotions of people. When these emotions merge with poetic language, they generate an extraordinary force, propelling matters forward. Atika Al-Khazraji, our poet, endeavors to kindle nationalism and love for one's homeland through rhetoric and poetic expression, preparing people to protect their values. Her early recognition of Palestine's plight, dating back to the Balfour Declaration in 1917, reflects her awareness of the conspiracy against Palestine and the Islamic world. Her collection of 12 poems predominantly centers on resistance literature, intertwined with themes of jihad, struggle, the homeland, and passionate expressions. Using analytical and critical methods, we unveil the key features of her style and art in resistance literature, patriotism, and nationalism, such as Palestine, the homeland, national unity, martyrdom, jihad, and the fighters and militants.
