Biopolitics according to Foucault

The term biopolitics appeared in Foucault’s works, by which he means that everything that concerns humans is subject to authority, by which he means the method used to rationalize issues raised in governmental practice related to the phenomena of living things and what relates to them. Politics is concerned with population and the health that accompanies them, the birth rate and longevity, and these issues in a way were considered topics of political and economic bet until today. Biopolitics was concerned with the human being as a whole, not as an individual or a specific person, to direct the human being towards life and investing in it, not towards death. In contrast to the ancient past, politics in the name of the ruler was practiced to bring death and to kill people in the name of the law. Biopolitics replaced the old policy of surveying the individual and managing his life.
