Abstract

This article presents the theme of the camp In the works of A. I. Solzhenitsyn and V. T. Shalamov. The subject of concentration camps occupies a very important place in the creativity of Shalamov and Solzhenitsyn even more than Dostoevsky, because the subject has increased to a greater degree in the Russian life of the twentieth century in comparison with the peaceful life of the nineteenth century. Solzhenitsyn and Shalamov are writers who find themselves in similar circumstances but have fully assimilated them, but with different opinions and theories. Shalamov is among the writers who wrote about the concentration camps and occupies an important place with the strength of his tone of voice, the depth of emotion and the watchful eye during his description of this suffering, which can only be compared with Solzhenitsyn because the latter can be with him in the test because he went through the same experience. Both have an adequate picture of that life. Both before prison were novice writer, where they spent the prime years of their youth in the concentration barracks and from there they went out to do their duty as citizens and writers, where each of them wrote a tremendous epic that is the true encyclopedia of life in the concentration camps. Despite the qualitative similarity in the biographies of both writers, there is a very noticeable difference that greatly influenced their general style of concentration camp literature. Although Solzhenitsyn and Shalamov differ in their views on concentration camps, there is at least one common goal of camp literature for both authors: the desire to show the world the truth.
